Elisa Viscosi Obituary

WORCESTER, Mass. — Elisa "Alice" (Berni) Viscosi, 83, of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in her home surrounded by her beloved family.

Elisa was born May 20, 1925, in Worcester, a daughter of Pompilio and Raffaela (Terranova) Berni. She attended Worcester public schools and has lived there all her life. During her employed years, Elisa worked as a claims clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Insurance for 18 years, before retiring in 1987. She also co-owned and operated — with her daughter — Diane's Theatrical Shop, on Hamilton St. in Worcester.

Very content with her life, Elisa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who enjoyed being surrounded by her family during their summers in Wells, Maine, for more than 35 years. She was active in her community, a talented seamstress who made dance-wear, costumes and draperies, and she was an enthusiastic gardener. Elisa was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, its Golden Years and a former CYC Adult Advisor with her husband.

Elisa's husband of 53 years Carmen A. Viscosi passed away in 1999. And six brothers, Eugenio "Gerry," Frank, Enrico and Joseph Felicetti, and Daniel and Albert Berni, and a sister, Lillian Berni, all pre-deceased her.

She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Linda M. Limoli, and her husband, Joseph, of Worcester, Diane T. Siegfried, and her husband, Fred, of San Jose, Calif., and Tina R. Coderre, and her husband, James, of Charlton; four cherished grandchildren, James Limoli, and his wife, Maria, John Limoli, Anthony and Danielle Coderre; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Elisa's funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Building Fund, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA 01604, or the Beacon of Hope, 62 West St., Leominster, MA 01453.
