George Morrissey Obituary

PEABODY, Mass. - George F. Morrissey, 64, of Hampton, N.H., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Kindred Hospital and Long Term Acute Care Center in Peabody after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Morrissey was born Oct. 21, 1945, in Dover, to the late Thomas and Lorraine (Flayham) Morrissey.

George attended St. Mary Academy and graduated from Dover High School.

He was the proprietor of Legacy Antiques and was very well known in dealer circles. He had previously owned shops in Wells and Kennebunkport, Maine, and had participated in many antique shows in the local and regional areas.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Morrissey, his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Katelin and Thomas, of East Taunton, Mass.; his aunt, Caroline and her husband, Walter Kenney, of Dover; his close friend, Dr. David Weening of Danvers, Mass.; his long-term companion, William Burford of Hampton, and their beloved dog, Lucy; and several other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

WE REMEMBER: Prior to his career in antiques, George spent several years in Chicago as a florist and restaurant manager.

He was an active member of Saint George Maronite Catholic Church in Dover, where he served as an Assistant Deacon for several years.

George was known for his salad and secret dressing recipe, which he provided at many church suppers and house parties.

His outgoing personality brought sunshine into the lives of many of his friends. His generous nature and ability to laugh at life through the telling of humorous, but sometimes exaggerated, stories of past events will be missed by all who knew him, especially those to whom he was close.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home - Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Rye. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in George's name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
