Harold Staples Obituary

OGUNQUIT — Harold Elliot Staples, 81, of Ogunquit died Thursday, July 31 at York Hospital.

Harold was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 26, 1927, the only child of Elliot and Marion (Littlefield) Staples. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management from Oklahoma State University. On Feb. 21, 1953 Harold married Betty Phelps, his loving wife of 55 years.

For the past 53 years, Harold owned and managed the Riverside Motel in Perkins Cove, Ogunquit.

Harold was an avid reader, and enjoyed golf, playing cards, and gardening, and the Riverside Motel. Of most importance was his family. Harold was fortunate enough to have his sons stay in the family business and work with him.

Harold is survived by his loving wife, Betty Staples; sons, Michael Staples and Corey Staples; grandchildren, Amanda Staples and Heather Field; and great grandchildren, Cameron Field and Alex Field.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 3 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Wells with Reverend Jeffrey Patnaude.

I have many fond memories of Harold and the two summers I worked for him at the motel. He was a great guy and treated all of us silly college kids so well. My deepest sympathy to the entire Staples family.

I will always smile when I think of Mr. Staples coming in to the bank and when asked how he was doing he would ALWAYS reply TIP TOP.
I will surely miss Mr. Staples. You have my condolences
