Jacqueline L. MacDonald

DOVER - Jacqueline L. MacDonald passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, in Dover, following a brief illness. She was born on July 22, 1923 in St. John, Maine, to Alphonse and Anne Cyr.

Jackie was predeceased by her brother Bernard J. Cyr, who was killed while fighting at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, sisters Madelyn Rogers, Bernadett Volhurst, Wilma Lynch and Irene Burke.

Jackie was raised in Bangor, Maine and graduated from John Baptist High School. Jackie married her high school sweet-heart, Richard P. MacDonald in June of 1946.

The couple relocated to Portsmouth where they raised six children, Bernard J. MacDonald, Duncan L. MacDonald and wife Sheryl, Mary E. Fournier and husband David, Karen A. Goldsmith, John E. MacDonald, and Ann M. Castellaz; her beloved nieces Mary Jane Perry and Amiee Wall; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews.

She was greatly loved by her many friends and neighbors from Portsmouth where she resided for over sixty years, and the Wentworth Home, Dover where she had resided since September of 2014.

Jackie was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, and St. Mary's Church in Dover. She was a longtime member of St. Catherine Women Club and an ardent fundraiser and volunteered to staff at many church events though the years.

The family wishes to thank those at Hyder Family Hospice House and Wentworth Hospice, for their compassionate care and in helping Jackie make her final journey with dignity and grace.

SERVICES: A wake will be held Thursday, April 5, from 4-7 p.m., at Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Burial will be held at a later date in Bangor, Maine at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
