John M. Glenfield

HAMPTON - John M. Glenfield, 71, of Hampton Meadows, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at his home, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Rumford, Maine, a son of Elizabeth E. (Olsen) Glenfield of Peabody, Mass., and the late John O. Glenfield. Raised in Rumford, he was a 1958 graduate of Rumford High School and a graduate of the Lowell Technological Institute, now University of Lowell, with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Mr. Glenfield worked many years in the defense and aerospace industries, primarily for Raytheon and MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne E. (Gibson) Glenfield in 2007 and his brother, George E. Glenfield in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hamel of Hampton; one son, Stephen M. Glenfield and his wife Kelly of Londonderry; three daughters, Amy E. Spadano and her husband Joe of Westford, Mass., Kate Sussman and her husband Scott of Bedford, and Sarah A. Glenfield of Chelmsford, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

WE REMEMBER: He was a consistent participant American Red Cross blood and platelet donor. An advocate for veteran's causes, he strongly supported the Veteran's History Project, encouraging veteran's to share their war time experiences.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully. Private interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Beverly, Mass.
