Marcel Blanchette Obituary

NEWMARKET — Marcel E. Blanchette, 83, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in Manchester.

He was born June 2, 1925, the son of Ernest and Alice (Rousseau) Blanchette.

He attended St. Mary Grammar School and Newmarket High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Blanchette owned and managed Lamprey Plumbing and Heating. He was a 75-year waterman on Great Bay, holding a commercial eel fishing license and loved digging clams, raking oysters and fishing for striped bass. He was a great gardener, commercially growing vegetables, specializing in tomatoes.

He was a charter member of Squadron 67, Sons of the American Legion, for 41 years.

He is survived by one sister and her husband, Gabriel and Edmund Portyrata of Newmarket; one brother, Raymond Blanchette, (Maj. Ret.), of Austin, Tex.; many nieces and nephews; one adopted son and his wife, Christopher and Patty Taft, and their three sons, Ashton, Dylan and Dustin.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the American Legion, 151 Main St., Newmarket.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion, Post 67 Children's Youth Fund.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire.
