Marie Cherichetti Obituary

STRATHAM - Marie Cherichetti, lovingly known as Dedee, (93) passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Marie was born in Eastchester, N.Y., on March 8, 1927 to John and Pierina Chierichetti.

Marie attended Eastchester High School in N.Y., where she often played piano accompaniment for various vocal groups. Due to a heart condition, Marie never played sports, but her keen math skills were used to manage the teams and keep their scores. In 1948, Marie graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Alfred University, N.Y. While at Alfred, she was president of the Women's Student Government, officer of the Theta Chi Sorority, and member of Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities.

Marie's business savvy and interpersonal skills served her well as she worked her way up to Business Manager and ultimately Vice President at Time, Inc. She spent 36 years walking in high heels from Grand Central Station to Rockefeller Center where her office overlooked Radio City Music Hall. Fortune Magazine was her baby and she spoke with great fondness about the many interesting people she met and the travel opportunities her career provided. Marie was a loving daughter and took care of both her parents in their family home until their deaths. Prior to her retirement in 1987, Marie took a sabbatical and traveled the world.

Once retired, Marie moved to New Hampshire to be with her widowed sister, Norma Monahan. The two of them enjoyed many river cruises throughout the world with their younger brother, Jack, and his wife Norma. With a positive attitude and fierce determination, Marie survived stage four ovarian cancer at the age of 80.

In her spare time, Marie enjoyed family meals, watching golf and was an avid and talented knitter. She looked forward to meeting with the sewing club ladies each week. She also served on the board of the Peninsula at Winding Brook Condo Association, where she resided for 27 years.

Marie is survived by her sister, Norma Monahan of Stratham, New Hampshire; nephews, George Monahan and wife Nancy of Stratham, New Hampshire; Jeffrey Chierichetti and wife Cinthya of Rosario de Pervar, Costa Rica; John Chierichetti and wife Janet of Mission Viejo, California; James Chierichetti and wife Shannon of Port Angeles, Washington; Paul Chierichetti and wife Mary of Yorba Linda, California; several grandnephews and grandnieces including Marisa Monahan of Stratham, New Hampshire.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pierina Chierichetti, and her brother, Jack Chierechetti and wife Norma.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Rockingham Meals on Wheels or Rockingham VNA and Hospice. Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
