William Fales Obituary
Passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the age of 88.
Bill was born in Laconia, NH on July 2, 1932, to Howard W. Fales, Sr and Florence Jewett Fales, the fourth of five children. The Fales family moved to Portsmouth, NH in 1943. Bill attended Portsmouth High School. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Richard E. Krause, DD-849 and the Naval Reserves. Bill retired from Public Service of New Hampshire after 30 years of dedicated service. Bill was the custodian at St. Patrick School in Portsmouth for 8 years. Following that, Bill worked part time for the York Housing Authority for 17 years until finally retiring in 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Violette Fales, the love of his life for 60 years; son Scott Fales of Portsmouth; son William W. Fales, Jr and daughter-in-law Rhonda Donahue Fales of Portsmouth; grandchildren Ian Fales of Goodyear, AZ, Kathryn Fales of Phoenix, AZ and Lindsey Fales of Portsmouth; his sister Barbara St. Pierre of Laconia; and several sisters and brothers in law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill had a passion for reading the daily newspaper, staying current with news and events and ready to engage in discussion and spirited debate with anyone willing to spend time with Verna and he on the front porch. A stickler for neatness, he was always well dressed and groomed. He loved to drive visiting family members around the Seacoast giving a narrated tour and sharing history of the area.
Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Bill's life on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Farrell Funeral Home in Portsmouth. A service will be conducted at Corpus Christi Parish at Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth on Thursday, April 29 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Cavalry Cemetery in Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local food bank or shelter to help people truly in need.

I'm so sorry we've lost our Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow. That he will be so missed is a testament to his kindness and sweetness. Even in our sadness, we have to remember how lucky we are to have enjoyed his presence for as long as we did. I will always be grateful for the love and enrichment he brought to my life and the lives of his grandchildren, Ian and Kate. We will keep him close in our hearts and his light will shine on in our happy memories of him.
