Adrianne Z. LUND Gustav J. LUND Adrianne Zettel was born December 17, 1921 in Oakland, CA & graduated from high school in 1939. She had a successful business holding marionette shows at the City of Paris department store in San Francisco and also worked as a pianist for the San Francisco Ballet. Gustav John Lund was born January 6, 1908 in Oakland, CA. He grew up on his parents' farm near Sebastopol, CA. He received both a bachelor's degree (1930) & a master's degree in chemistry (1932) from the University of California at Berkeley. He subsequently went to work as a chemist at the Shell Oil refinery in Martinez, CA. Gus and Adrianne were married April 27, 1940 in Reno, NV. They bought their first home in Berkeley, CA. Their son Edward (Ted) was born in 1945, followed by daughter Barbara in 1951. Following Gus's transfer to the head office of Shell Oil in 1955, they lived in the Northeast for 15 years. They were both fascinated by Manhattan Island & greatly enjoyed exploring New York City. In 1970 Gus was transferred to the Shell Petrochemical division & they moved to Houston, TX; he retired from Shell Oil in 1973. In 1979 they relocated to Edmonds, WA. They joined the Greater Seattle Home Organ Society and made many friends within that group. Adrianne found time to pursue her fascination with painting in oils and other media, as well as a variety of textile crafts. Gus's interest in gardening never ceased & he always delighted in trying out new plants in the garden. His philatelic activities spanned a period of 87 years, and included editing the newspaper "The Seaposter", participating in philatelic exhibitions and publishing a reference book "The Paquebot Marks of the Americas" in 1984. He was a member of the USCS and the APS for many years. Adrianne died in her sleep on March 10th; Gus passed away peacefully on April 19th. They were married for almost 68 years. They are survived by their daughter & son-in-law Barbara & John Mericle of Edmonds, WA, their son's widow Bonnie Lund of Monument, CO & a grandson Ryan Reeves of Greeley, CO. Their son Ted passed away last year following a long illness. At their request there were no memorial services, & they asked that no donations be made in their memory.
