I have vivid visual memory of Torvold, Skandia's plywood Viking, signaling the direction to a class or dance as I walked past the entrance to the Wilsonian Ballroom decades ago not knowing that I would be drawn into Art's magical world of folk music and dance some 15 years later.
Our lives have been so enriched by Art and others in his sphere.
To know Art is to know someone very special.
A Harborview ICU nurse remarked "There sure are a lot of people who love Art."
Indeed.
An honor, a privilege, and a blessing.

Art was sincere and kind, and always saw the good in everyone. He befriended others without judging--and was loved in return.
What a humorous fellow! I will miss Art's gentle manner and his great chuckle/snort when something tickled his funny bone. He loved a good joke and plays on words, and I loved his quick wit.
Art made learning to dance a great experience, using funny, tongue-in-cheek pronouncements to help students relax (e.g.,"apologize to this partner and move ahead to the next partner", and "it's always the man's fault when a dance falls apart"). He was a talented dance teacher and the best of mentors, who always encouraged others to keep learning.
I will miss Art at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I cherish the good memories of innumerable holidays spent with him and other friends over the past 30 years.
