Audrey Hansmire Obituary

Audrey Laverne HANSMIRE Audrey died of complications after surgery at 1:22 p.m. December 17, 2011. Audrey was born Audrey Laverne Treadwell on March 30, 1940 at Abilene, Kansas. At a young age, her family moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, where she attended elementary and high school. When her mother passed away, she found a home with the family of Mrs. Georgia Hunt during her high school years. Audrey graduated from Fairbury High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, to attend cosmetology school. While in Lincoln she met and married Gerald Hansmire on August 23, 1964, beginning a marriage of 47½ years. After Gerald graduated from the University of Nebraska, the couple moved to Portland, Oregon, and then to Seattle where Gerald attended graduate school at the University of Washington, and made Seattle their permanent home. Audrey put her career on hold to be a full-time mother for her two sons for over 16 years and later returned to work at the Washington Technologies Center located at the University of Washington, retiring in 2004. Audrey is survived by her husband Gerald, son Stefan, wife Tracy and granddaughter Jaimie Irene; son Michel, wife Sarah Wedemeyer, granddaughter Molly Elizabeth, and grandson Beckett Arthur. Audrey will be remembered for her exuberance for life, as a loving and dedicated mother, and as a wonderful friend and beautiful companion. Audrey loved to travel with her husband where they enjoyed many trips around the United States, and travels to Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Mexico, New Zealand, Fiji, and the Islands of the Central and Southwest Pacific. She will be forever missed by her family and friends. A memorial service is planned for January 14, 2012 at the Graham Visitors Center, Washington Park Arboretum.
