Brian Grutzius Obituary

Brian L. GRUTZIUS Brian L. Grutzius, 42, of Issaquah, WA, passed away December 13, 2010, with loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 8, 1968, in Hammond, IN., to Leonard A. and Sandra A. Grutzius. He was raised in Lansing, IL., along with brothers Dion C. Grutzius; Jason J. Grutzius and sister, Carmen C. Griffith. He took an interest in computing from an early age, pursuing it with a special energy throughout his lifetime, ultimately making it his life's work. As a young man, his character was also strongly influenced by his participation in the Boy Scoutsof America, where he proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Brian graduated from Quigley Preparatory South High School in 1986 and earned a BS in Computer Science from Governor's State University in 1991. He married the love of his life & soulmate, Nirmala A. Cano in 1991, and together they lived happily in Rolling Meadows, IL., before relocating to Issaquah in 2000. They proudly share two loving daughters, Anjali M. and Sonia G. Grutzius. He was passionate about his work at The Walt Disney Company, where he was employed as a Software Engineer since 2000. He was always up for a good challenge, and thrived on solving complex problems, but most rewarding was the opportunity to work alongside so many great people he respected and admired. He was recently presented the Inventor's Award recognizing his innovative contributions. Brian also enjoyed reading, baking, photography, mountain biking, hiking, roller-skating, spending time outdoors, and traveling to visit family in both Chicago and India. He will be remembered for his signature tie-dyed t-shirts, oil-skin hat, and fun-loving, positive attitude. He is survived by his wife, daughters, parents, and siblings, and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral services will be held December 29th at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church located at 1121 228th Avenue SE Sammamish, WA. 98075. More details at: http://www.flintofts.com/ The Anjali and Sonia Grutzius Benefit Trust has been established to benefit his daughters. Donations can be made at any Bank of America branch.

I smile everytime I think of the time you and Nirmala had us women from work over for a luncheon and then, under your guidance, we all tried our hand at tie dying. You were so patient and gentle with us. It was such a hoot. I've kept the shirt (although it no longer fits me) because it brings back such wonderful memories.

Brian you were such a good friend but more imporatntly you were a good husband and good father and you lead your family in a way that honors your memory. You were a blessing to all who were touched by you. Enjoy your rewards and your eternal rest.
