Cano Numoto Obituary

Cano NUMOTO Was born on January 9, 1910 at Yarrow Point, Bellevue, WA, and died at age 93 years old on October 31, 2003 in Bellevue. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Miyo Kawase Numoto of Bellevue; sons Philip Numoto of Richmond, CA, and Bruce (Sue) Numoto of Sacramento, CA; daughter Jennie "Gidget" (Dennis) Terpstra of Shoreline, Wa; grandchildren Christopher (Kristin) Terpstra of Bothell, WA., and Carrie Terpstra of Bellevue. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hills Chapel, Greens's Funeral Home of Bellevue, 1215-145th Place S.E., Bellevue, WA. Cano lived in Bellevue all his life except while the family was interned at Tulane Lake, CA and Minidoka, Idaho Relocation Centers. He was one of the early farmers of Japanese ancestry in Bellevue and later worked for the Boeing Company. In 1998 he was recognized in special ceremonies by King County Executive for being conscientious voter for over 50 years. In 1990 he was honored by te Bellevue Historical Society at the 1990 Bellevue Strawberry Fest. Cano was one of the honored Nisei still living in Bellevue in 1993 when the Bellevue Parks Department planted Japanese cherry trees.
