Charles Moore Obituary

Charles MOORE III Charlie Moore passed away Friday, July 13th from complications following a stroke. He was born in Tacoma, the son of Townsend and Elizabeth Moore, and later moved to Seattle where he attended Lakeside and graduated from Franklin High School. He went on to the University of Washington, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and served in the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduating from the UW he married Diane Gray. They were stationed in Colorado Springs where Charlie was a Captain and ran the dog training program. After completing his military service Charlie and Diane moved to Lakewood and raised their three children, Chad Moore, Kim Burke, and Kendall Moore. Charlie was an avid snow and water skier, and enjoyed boating. He was a crew member of the 1961 6 meter Sailing Team that won the North American Championship sponsored by The Globe & Mail. Charlie began a long career in the building materials business at Gray Company in Tacoma where he worked for 16 years. Later he moved to Seattle and started Uresco Construction Materials with his son, Chad. Charlie married Ann Smith Proctor and they lived for many years in the Laurelhurst neighborhood. Charlie enjoyed entertaining and working in the garden. He was always very proud of his lovely yard. In his retirement he enjoyed hosting many family gatherings, fishing in Canada and Alaska and traveling to Roche Harbor to visit his mother before her death. Charlie was a loyal fan of Husky sports and attended football and basketball games for many years. He co-chaired the 50th reunion of the UW class of '53 and was delighted that so many members of his graduating class attended the event. Charlie was recognized by the Boy Scouts for his years of service and was the 1987 recipient of the Patrons of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's highest honor, the Breath of Life Award. Charlie and Ann both lived at Faerland Terrace where Charlie was President of the Residents Council. He is survived by his wife, Ann Moore; his children, Chad Moore, Kim Burke (Dr. Mike Burke) and Kendall Moore (Jeri Vaughn); his stepchildren, Judy Williams and Richard Proctor, his grandchildren, Griffin Burke, Kourtney Burke, Charlie Burke, Ladd Moore and Mackenzie Moore, and his step grandchildren, Haley Proctor, Calvin Proctor, Carley Williams and Alison Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Alyssa (Lissy) Moore. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charlie Moore Endowed Fellowship for Cystic Fibrosis Research at the University of Washington School of Medicine and sent to Lynn Hogan/ UW Medical Affairs 1325 Fourth Avenue Suite 2000, Seattle, WA 98101-2506.
