Craig Webster Obituary

Craig WEBSTER Craig Lewis Webster celebrated life. He loved people but also thrived on solo adventures where he could directly experience the outdoor elements. His family was extremely important to him. Craig gave all of himself to everything he did whether it was learning a new skill or taking part in the many community projects about which he so cared. Craig's generosity of spirit, his joie de vivre and his quirky sense of humor endeared him to everyone who knew him. He had a passionate, playful and gentle nature, and a unique way of framing the world around him. Craig's passions included first and foremost his wife, Tasha, and their dog, Sabakka. He was an avid sailor and a talented artist who painted, sketched and photographed with sensitivity and skill. He began each day at 5:00 a.m. regardless of the season, traversing Lake Union in his beloved scull. Flying was his newest adventure. He got his pilot's license to celebrate his 49th birthday! He loved the solitude and beauty of being in the air. Craig was the founder of the Seattle firm, C.L. Webster Architects. Over his career he designed a wide variety of projects, including affordable housing, medical clinics, community centers, and residences. He approached each project with a fresh enthusiasm and vision, and found beauty in the details as well as the big picture. Craig's sense of service to his community was a huge part of who he was. He was very interested in designing affordable housing and incorporating sustainable design principles into his work. Recently Craig led a team to Mississippi, providing relief to communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Craig served on the boards of the Maritime Heritage Foundation, Northwest Seaport and Architects without Borders. Craig was a family man. Though he had no children of his own, his three nieces and three nephews were a cherished part of his life and he of theirs. "Uncle Cwaigy" was a great uncle - fun, funny and hip. He offered a shoulder to cry on and strength in times of confusion or pain. Craig is survived by his wife, Tasha, his mother, Kate Webster, his sisters, Kelly Webster and Anne Fox, his brother-in-law, Jon Fox, his nieces, nephews and grand-nephew. He brightened our lives, and we will miss him terribly. Craig was returning from an AIA Convention in Texas when his Cessna 210 developed mechanical problems. Craig died when the plane crashed as he attempted an emergency landing. A Memorial Service for Craig will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, 1245 10th East, in Seattle. Remembrances may be sent to Northwest Seaport.

Dear
Tasha, and Webster family,
My sincere and deepest sympathy on the loss of Craig a really great,
great guy.
I had the privlage of working with Craig on one of the finest homes I
have ever constructed. (Bluebell Springs) Craig was a real team player
and knew how to work with people. We have been trying to do more
projects together ever since. Craig was a compassionate man in all
respects and that clearly showed in how he conducted himself and his
buisness. Craig was always fun to converse with and knowlegable about
what he would talk about. Truly a problem solver and peace maker. He
will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The architectural and
building community have lost a hero. I hope some day we will get to play that round of golf we always talked about but never got around to.
Steve Reynolds, Pearson Construction.
