David McMonigle Obituary

Dr. David Robert McMonigle, Sr.

Dr. David Robert McMonigle, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home November 7th, 2018 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy McMonigle and their four children, Susan Cloven, Wendy Barkley, Stephanie Carpenito, and David Robert McMonigle Jr. (Rob). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, his yellow lab, Callie, and his tortoiseshell cat, Matia.

He founded the McMonigle Veterinary Hospital and practiced veterinary medicine in the Kent Valley for more than 40 years. He cultivated trust and compassion in his clients, both human and animal alike.

His love of animals started early as the youngest of ten siblings on a dairy farm in Yelm. He spent four years in the Navy gaining medical experience, earned a GI bill to attend Washington State University and was 2nd class rank upon his discharge. He was the first in his family to go to college and remained a loyal Cougar until the end. We know he regrets missing this year's Apple Cup and the rest of the football season.

He learned to ski at 40, rode motorcycles with his son, played tennis and traveled the world with his wife, and went on crabbing adventures in the San Juan islands with his family and friends. He introduced his children and grandchildren to skiing, raw oysters, John Deere mowers, and the proper way to wash a car and load a dishwasher.

His farm values remained with him throughout his life. He enjoyed starting his tomatoes and lettuce in the greenhouse and supplying neighbors, friends and family. Please sign his online guestbook at marlatt.com.

I will always remember Dr. McMonigle as a caring man who loved to laugh with us about the challenges of life with animals and each other. His veterinary hospital took care of at least 15 of our family pets over the last 40 years, and just as importantly, he took care of us. Thank you Doctor and thanks to your family for all the kind memories. From your local Husky - Angela (Eide) Moore
