David Shipway Obituary

David Loran Shipway

David was born January 2, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Loran and Eva Mae "Mickey" Shipway. He reached eternal cruising altitude November 4, 2018, in Kirkland, Washington. He is survived by Linda (his wife of 54 years), his daughters Dawn (Michael), Heather (Dave), and Rebekka (Greco), his first granddaughter Maya, his second granddaughter, Stella Mae (due in January), and his sister Lynda.

David and his family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1948, resided for a short time in Burien, Washington, and then settled down on Hollywood Hill in Woodinville in November of 1951. David went from being a Bothell Cougar (Class of 1961) to being a UW Husky (Class of 1967) with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

He started working at Boeing (1965), retiring in 2001. While at Boeing, he was one of the "Incredibles," working on 747 avionics. In 1978, 1979, and 1980, he assisted in the construction of Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan, designing and installing fire-control systems and reader-board signs.

His 36-year Boeing career was overlapped by his 30-plus-year avocation as a youth-softball and youth-soccer coach and he was president of the Northshore Youth Soccer Association for 13 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Washington Cathedral at 12300 Redmond-Woodinville Road NE in Redmond on December 15th at 1:30.

David's family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Hospital, Madison House, and Evergreen Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a donation in David's name to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
