Diana Elmer Obituary

Diana Hughes Elmer

June 13, 1953 ~ May 16, 2015

Our beloved Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend, Diana Hughes Elmer, passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 61 in Seattle, Washington. She was a devoted mother to Leslie Elmer and Mathew Elmer and friend to many.

Diana was born June 13, 1953 in Seattle to Phyllis and David Hughes. She grew up in the Laurelhurst neighborhood making life-long bonds with neighbors and classmates alike. She attended and graduated Roosevelt High School, Wenatchee Valley College, and Central Washington University. She married Michael Elmer on June 8, 1974 with Leslie and Mathew arriving shortly thereafter. They divorced many years later but remained good friends over the years. After spending several years raising her children, Diana worked doing what she loved as a corporate travel agent for over 25 years. She began at All Around Travel and was working at Tangerine Travel when she passed. She considered her co-workers, colleagues and clients her second family and judging from the outpouring of support from all of you, the feeling was mutual.

Diana grew up skiing the slopes in the winters and swimming and boating in the summers in Lake Chelan with her brothers, David and Kevin Hughes, mother and their adored stepfather, Bob Fletcher. She found wonderful hobbies that filled her time when she wasn't working, including cooking, reading and spending time with her cherished dogs. She was adventurous, loved to travel and never knew a stranger. She was outgoing, compassionate, personable and kind. She captured many people's hearts over the years many of whom remember her incredible sense of humor and contagious laugh.

Her kids were her life. Diana spent much of her time enjoying the world through their eyes whether it be sports, travel, school events when they were younger, or celebrating life and work achievements as they got older. She loved their friends and was like a second mom to many of them, opening her heart and home to anyone at any time. She delighted in spending time with her Mom, which lasted until the day she passed. She was a true testament of goodness.

Diana is survived by her daughter Leslie Elmer, son Mathew Elmer, mother Phyllis Fletcher, brothers David and Kevin (Sue) Hughes, and niece Jessica Hughes. She is preceded in death by her Father, David Hughes, and her stepfather, Robert Fletcher. Diana was loved by all and will be greatly missed, but we are forever grateful for all the wonderful memories. Her love and laughter will be held dear in our hearts.

Please join the family for a gathering at the Family Home in Seattle on Saturday, May 30th between 2pm and 5pm to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Diana, the family suggests donations to American Diabetes Association and Swedish Cancer Institute.

I am still in shock to think that Diana has passed. She was one of my dearest friends for
the eight years that we worked together at All Around Travel. I live very close to her in Kirkland and every time I was near her home I would think of her. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by every one that knew her.
Rest in Peace Diana.
Love,
Sandy

Diana and I worked together for many years at All Around Travel.
She was always smiling, had an infectious laugh, and always made
the customers and her peers feel like they were the most important
person in the world. She loved her family so much, and my thoughts are with them . She is gone way to soon. She will watch over you Leslie and Matt because you were her world.

Diana and I were friends years ago in school and it was a joy to reconnect a few years ago. She really had not changed from our teenage years! My thoughts and prayers are sent to her family. I know that you have lovely memories and hope that you find peace during this difficult and sad time.

Diana was such a blessing. I always felt happier when I'd see her car in the parking lot coming to work. I'd think, Oh good, Diana is here today! She was always asking about my family and never complained about her issues. And she could always always make me laugh. She was a very proud mom and I loved talking to her about mom things. She always understood, could totally relate and had great advise. I will miss you, my friend.

Words are of no help in expressing the sorrow I feel at this moment. Please accept my sincere condolences. I have such fond memories of Diana and ALL the 55th street gang I grew up with in my childhood. Although it's been years since I last saw Diana, I would always smile when I'd hear or think about her. I'm smiling now as I reminisce the past. I have nothing but good memories of all the Hughes Family. Sending you each my love, Debbie Morrison
