Douglas Deaton Obituary

Douglas Deaton

July 14, 1953 ~ May 7, 2019

Doug passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, with his beloved wife at his side, at his home in Everett, WA after a brief illness. He was born in Soda Springs, ID, on July 14, 1953 and also lived in Colorado, Wyoming, and California prior to moving to Bellevue, WA, with his family as a child. Graduating from Sammamish High School in 1971 Doug was always eager to work and while still in high school he pumped gas then worked as head of security at K-Mart in Bellevue. When a senior in high school he began what would be a 27 year career as a heavy equipment operator by working as a crane operator at Bellefield Office Park in Bellevue. Quite an accomplishment for a 17 year old. Doug returned to school and then spent 20 years working in IS, IT and as a network administrator.

Doug liked to tinker and could repair almost anything always chalking up these abilities to his Idaho ingenuity. Unknown to most he was a good cook and could not only prepare wonderful meals but also lemon meringue pie from scratch. He thoroughly enjoyed being an amateur (ham) radio operator (extra class and VE examiner) and the friends he made through this hobby. He also enjoyed fly fishing, shooting, lapidary work, gardening, the ocean and mostly being home with his wife.

Doug and his wife first met when he was just 19 years old but the timing wasn't right. They were reunited a number of years later and celebrated 34 years of marriage. Doug was a devoted husband, humble, kind, honest with a work ethic not often seen, smart and loving with an uncanny wit.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine Deaton and Janice Evans and brother Sean. He leaves behind his wife and soulmate, Susan, son, Blaine, stepchildren, Warren and Tamara; sister, Debi; grandchildren, nephews and a niece.

Our hearts are broken but Doug will continue to be loved and missed more than words can say.

In honoring his wishes, there will be no service. Sign Doug's online Guest Book at www.Legacy.com

My love,
Another year has passed. Another missed wedding anniversary and in three weeks your birthday. The grief is still deep and endless. True to your nature and concern for me you didn't leave until I begged you to as I couldn't bare watching what you were going through. I miss you so very much but comforted in knowing you are no longer in pain and in a much better place. I can't wait until we are reunited.

I am so late in acknowledging Doug's death. I knew Doug in high school and when I was 19 and first going to college. I don't think I've seen him since a wedding in the early 70s! What I remember about Doug is that he was a really good man...even at 19. I remember meeting his mom and he was so considerate and protective of her. Doug was different than some guys I knew, maybe because he lost his dad. He was more mature, perceptive, motivated, and kind. I am happy he had a good life with his wife of 34 years and family. And I am sorry for your loss.

The endless seconds stretch into minutes into hours into weeks and months that you are no longer here. Grief multiplying upon grief. My best friend, my soulmate. My forever man. The only man I've ever loved in ways I didn't know possible. Sometimes I wear your coat pretending it's your arms around me and remember the sound of your voice saying I love you. You are the most beautiful/handsome, kind, loving, supportive and patient person I've ever known. And the laughter. God, how I miss the laughter. Until tears ran down my cheeks. I miss and love you so very much.

We've lost a wonderful man too soon. I'm his mother in law and love him very much. He and my daughter had such a very special and wonderful relationship. A thoughtful, caring, kind, and gentle man. And always so nice to me when I messed up my computer!

I will miss Doug. I remember the numerous chats we had on the repeater. Also the VE testing sessions where he helped bring new HAMs into the world of Amateur radio. Our group dinners at the Pizza Bank were always fun. Doug also worked where my sister retired from a couple of years back, Vacation International. He would occasionally provide batteries from their UPS systems that had been removed for replacement, but were still in good condition. My wife Sandy and I pray for God's comfort upon Susan and the Deaton family.

Doug was often the first person I greeted when I came into the office each morning, he was as reliable as the sun. They were just simple "Good Mornings" and "Hellos", but I miss them...

I worked with Doug for over 20 years, and relied on his expertise and patience addressing any questions or issues I was having with the company computers and systems. He taught me a lot and could always be counted on to give you straightforward advice. He was never condescending or patronizing. I will really miss his presence in the office.

I met Doug, 3 years ago on ham radio. Doug would get on his radio while commuting. Doug always helped us with computer stuff, in a way we could understand. Doug will be greatly missed by the 900 MhZ HAM GROUP. My thoughts and prayers go out to us survivors, I hope to see him again, in the future.

Doug was a wonderful man.He was always helping us geeks with problems. Wh ed n you hit an IT roadblock Doug was the go to guy. Loved his help and his humor on the radio. He was always there to liven up the radio chat and helped immensly many ham radio projects with necessary potential life saving supplys to keep the communications alive and well when needed. His wit, humor and comradery will be sorely missed. Love ya Doug. Godspeed in your ascent to a better place. Hope to see ya again someday ss.

Doug was a dedicated supporter of amateur radio, donating countless hours helping many Hams with everything from building antennas, to complicated computer interfaces. Also supplying computer support using his IT skills, Serving as volunteer test examiner, repeater control operator and trustee. and just all around great guy. His wisdom and jovial nature are truly missed.

Doug and I met at Tillicum Junior High. Little did I know we would be lifetime friends and one day family. I introduced him to my sister Susan who became his wife many years later. In the early years coming to my home to work on my computer for me. My sister and Doug shared a very special bond. He truly will be missed and thought of often. He was a humble man I hope he knows how much we all appreciated him.

I'm lucky to have worked with Doug for many years. Whether it was knowing he'd be there even in the worst weather, enjoying his witty and (mostly) good-natured remarks, or commiserating about life's unexpected twists, he was a good guy to have around. I'm better for having known him.

It was my pleasure to work with Doug for almost 20 years. Every day he came to work with a can-do attitude, patience and professionalism. He was reliable and concerned about us all the way to the end. I appreciated his efforts to help people less fortunate, and enjoyed his great sense of humor. I miss him and think of him often.
