Edwin Lagoe Obituary

Edwin Stephen LAGOE Passed away 5/20/2011 surrounded by family. Ed was born in Seattle on 12/1/1919, the son of Ivy and Joseph Lagoe. He grew up in the Mt Baker neighborhood until 1928, when his family moved to their new home at Angle Lake. He attended Marymount Military Academy, Highline High School, and the University of Washington. He worked for the Navy in Bremerton until drafted into the Army in 1943, where he served in Europe until the war ended. Ed spent most of his working years as a master sheet metal worker at Flohr & Co Metal Fabricators, where he had a part in placing the gas torch on top of the Space Needle. In 1941 he married Vernie Jean Collings. They had two daughters and lived happily together in Magnolia and Gig Harbor until her death in 1996. In 1999, he married his second wife, and they resided happily in Seattle until his death. Ed is survived by his wife Iris Lagoe; daughters Carol Lagoe and Patricia Bell (John); stepdaughters Julie Baker and Barbara Haque (Hamid); granddaughters Brittany Dickerson and Jennifer Brewster; and siblings Jo Franklin and Duncan Lagoe. He will be remembered as a loving & devoted husband, father, grandfather, & friend. He was always ready to help out when needed, and will be missed by all who knew him. At his request there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held July 9th at Lakewood Community Clubhouse from 11am-3pm. Donations to Swedish Hospice or Friends of the Library.
