Emmett Bowers Obituary

Emmett A. BOWERS, Jr. July 24, 1939 - August 27, 2003 After a yearlong battle with lung cancer, Emmett A. Bowers Jr. died on August 27, 2003 at Overlake Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1939 in Center Texas. He traveled with his father, Emmett A. Bowers Sr., and his mother, Anne Bowers, from Texas to New Mexico and finally to New Jersey where he met his future wife, Carole Kauffman when he stepped on her foot at the first 9th grade dance of the year. They spent the next four years dating at Hamilton High School while Emmett lettered on the football team, basketball team, and track team. His athletic prowess led him to receive all city honors as a lineman and a full athletic scholarship to Texas Technological College as well as top 5 academic honors. Knowing that she had met her future husband, Carole enrolled at Tech as well, and in the fall of 1957 they traveled from Trenton, New Jersey to Lubbock, Texas. After their freshman year they knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their life together and were married on June 7, 1958 at Bethel Lutheran Church. Upon graduating from college in 1961, Emmett and Carole moved back to New Jersey were Emmett began his engineering career with RCA. His career would lead him to hire on with The Boeing Company in 1965 in which he and his family would travel to jobs in Alabama, Texas, and finally to Seattle where he retired in 2002 after having worked for Boeing Military Division for 37 years. During Emmett and Carole's 45 years of marriage, they raised two children Edward Bowers and Tracy Boyle and watched as their four grandchildren Brendan Bowers, Nicholas Boyle, Ryley Boyle, and Samantha Bowers grew, and he became extremely close to Keith and Jane Kauffman his brother and sister-in-law. He also remained close to his aunt, Auntie Ruth who they would fly up from Houston, Texas each summer and spend a month together. Here's hoping that you will find comfort in happy memories. Love lives on in each thought and memory of our loved ones. In our hearts, our loved ones are with us every day. We were not together often, but we remember fondly when you and Son took us to eat salmon at a restaurant by a draw bridge. Please know we are thinking of you. With deepest sympathy, Aunt Marie Meadows, Jim and Peggy Greene
