Everett Austin Obituary

Everett Judson AUSTIN Passed away April 21, 2006 at the age of 92, in Monroe, WA. He was born Feb 20, 1914 in Cosmopolis, WA. He was the son of Everett and Pearl Austin. He graduated from Hoquiam High School. He next attended Grays Harbor Junior College and then transferred to the Universty of Washington. He was involved in athletics his whole life and was good enough to play football for the UW. He enjoyed being a small town kid getting to go to big time stadiums to play football with his team. He was on the 1937 Rose bowl team and played his last game that day. Also in 1937 he was awarded the Guy Flaherty award for most inspirational player. After graduating with a physical education degree he would teach in the Seattle School District for the majority of his career. He was a longtime teacher and coach at Whitman Jr High. He had a natural health approach to life long before this lifestyle would become more popular. He lived this way to the very end. He served in the Navy in WWII and was honorably discharged at the wars end. After retirement he traveled the U.S. and Europe with his special friend, Barbara Wessel until she passed in 1984. He settled in Santa Barbara and met Virginia Chennell. They enjoyed Santa Barbara and family for many more years. He was inspirational in his life as he faced progressive paralysis in his later years. He rarely complained and would adapt to his limitations with a matter a fact attitude. He was a good man. He will be missed by many friends and family. Everett is survived by his former wife, Elaine Austin, Snohomish WA; His daughters, Judith Sheldon, Redmond WA; Dr. Jan Austin, Greenacres, WA; Chris Castro, Everett WA; His sons, Dr. Everett Austin, Larkspur, CA and Tim Austin, Monroe, WA.
