Flora Correa Obituary

Flora H. CORREA Born in Seattle, February 16, 1908; passed away November 25, 2007. She was the daughter of Margaret and Jay Frederick Horst who were pioneers in Columbia City. Flora graduated from Franklin High School and the University of Washington with a degree in Art. She belonged to Kappa Delta sorority. Her marriage in 1930 to Roy Jay Correa was for 51 years. Years after his death she married Ralph Benaroya who died after only four and one-half years of marriage. For many years she had been a member of the Seattle Tennis Club where she had two terms on their joint board, the Women’s University Club, the Seattle Art Museum, the Bellevue Sister Cities, and a member of the Bellevue Art Museum since its beginning. She was mainly known as an artist and belonged to the Northwest Watercolor Society, the artist group of the National Association of American Penwomen and was a past president of the Seattle Art Museum Guild, the Women Painters of Washington, the Olympic Art Association and the Seattle District Auxiliary of the Seattle Dental Association. Flora is survived by her son, Roy J. Correa, Jr., his wife, Mabelan, grandchildren, Jay Nesbit Correa and Annemarie Correa, great granddaughter, Ella Marie Smith, and her son, David Charles Correa and his wife, Vernalee. Remembrances may be sent to Virginia Mason Medical Foundation, The Seattle Art Museum, the Bellevue Art Museum or a charity of your choice.

Flora, you will always be remembered. Every time I look at your paintings I think of you. Being with you on special occasions was your gift to me, my gift to you is eternal memory of a grand woman, my Aunt Flora.
