Florence Walsh Obituary

Florence N. WALSH January 30, 1924 - November 23, 2003 Of Seattle, Washington, died on November 23, 2003. She passed away peacefully and gracefully with her immediate family by her side following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of James A. Walsh, and loving mother of William Walsh (deceased), Barbara Martin (husband, Frank), Robert (wife, Kyle) and Paul Walsh. Florence was the beloved grandmother of Thomas and Elizabeth Martin, Andrew, Michael and Daniel Walsh. She was also survived by her brother, Gary Nepstad and sisters, Cora McDonald and Betty Kachelmacher. Florence was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota and raised in nearby Frost, Minnesota. Florence and James met in Chicago while he was attending Naval midshipman school during World War II. They were married on September 14, 1945 and shared 58 wonderful years together. They moved to Seattle in 1946, where she worked for Ford Motor Company. Florence and James moved to Mercer Island in 1955 where they raised their family and enjoyed their years together. She was a wonderfully caring mother and grandmother, who was deeply involved with her family, friends and community. Florence and James were founding parishoners of St. Monica Parish on Mercer Island. She was an active and dedicated volunteer for numerous organizations such as Senior Services, St. Monica's Parish and the Arboretum Guild. Florence was honored for her outstanding contributions to the quality of life in King County by Senior Services of Seattle/King County in 1989 for her 22 years of service. She will be greatly missed by her family and those lives that she touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Senior Services of Seattle/King County or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26 at GREEN'S BELLEVUE FUNERAL HOME. A Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 4315 - 88th Ave. S.E., Mercer Island. Visitation held at the Church on Friday, November 28 at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m.
