Frank Ashby Obituary

Frank Guy Ashby

Frank Guy Ashby was an American hero. He was born on July 22, 1919 and died on December 19, 2016 at the age of 97. As a young man, he supported his family during the 1930's depression. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant in the Merrill's Marauders campaign in Burma, which became America's first Army Rangers. After the war he finished his degree at Indiana University, met his wife Patricia, and together they started a family. He then rejoined the Army and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel during a 20-year career during which time he fought in the Korean War, had lunch in the White House with John Eisenhower, worked in the Pentagon, disseminated intelligence in Berlin at the height of the cold war, and interrogated Kurdish nomads near the Iran-Iraq border. During this distinguished career, he was awarded many commendations, including the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. After retiring from the Army in 1965, he and Pat chose the Kenmore area of Seattle to raise their family and begin new careers. During this second career, Frank taught history, economics, and civics for 15+ years at Inglemoor High School. He and Pat had been married for 49 years when she died in 1997. He is survived by 3 children (Deborah, Greg, and Barbara), 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Lake City Presbyterian Church at 1:00 PM on

Tuesday, December 27.

Frank Ashby was one of the most outstanding teachers I ever had, one of the best and finest men I ever met, and we are less of a people with his departure.

I extend my condolences to Greg, his sisters and offspring. They are lucky to share his traits; the rest of us are lucky to have known Mr. Ashby.

A beautiful life story. He was my daughter's father-in-law. So, I knew a lot about him. I am so glad that his son Greg is in my life. With blessings to all the family that he has left behind. Betty Daniels

When we lose a loved one, they become a memory. Then the memory becomes a treasure. Hold on to those treasures; they will help you during these difficult. (Isa. 41:10)
