Fred Burr Obituary

Fred L BURR Fred L Burr passed away on April 22, 2012 at age 80. Born on July 3, 1931, Fred was a life-long resident of West Seattle. Fred graduated from West Seattle High and the University of Washington. While at the UW, he met Rita Kakela. After he served in the US Army, Fred and Rita married in 1955. They had two children and enjoyed 42 years of marriage before her passing in 1997. Fred spent his professional career in the local aircraft manufacturing industry. In addition to his family, Fred's passions were hunting and fishing throughout the NW and hunter and firearm safety training. Fred served for over 50 years as an officer and trustee of the West Seattle Sportsman's Club and related organizations. Fred devoted countless hours to developing hunter education programs and instructing new hunters. Fred also worked tirelessly to support junior and adult shooting competition and leagues. He was recognized by Washington State Department of Fisheries and Wildlife for his service and contribution, including most recently with the Hoffer Hunter Education Instructor of the Year Award. Fred is survived by son, Ron Burr (Marlene), daughter Barbara Burr (Wayne Warren), grandchildren Elise and Eva Burr and Julian Warren; brother Robert Burr (Noreen), sister-in-law Marilynn Burr and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by wife Rita and brother James Burr. Fred's life will be celebrated at an open house at his home in West Seattle on Saturday from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burke Museum at the University of Washington.
