Gordon Wallace Schumacher

One of the greatest generation, Gordon died at home with his wife and family at his side. He was born in Caldwell, Idaho to Clifford and Lydia Schumacher in 1923. The family moved to Seattle in 1928. Gordon graduated from Lincoln High in 1942. Before going into the U.S. Army, Gordon helped build B-17 bombers at Boeing. At Camp Shelby, MS, he rose to Staff/Drill Sergeant in the 65th Infantry Division. In 1944 he was sent to Europe joining General George Patton's third Army. After V-E Day Gordon served in the Army of Occupation. Gordon married Martha Ward in March 1944. They became parents of two daughters, the first born when Gordon was still overseas. They were divorced in the 1950's. In 1959, Gordon and Janet were married, enjoying 58 years together. They lived in Bellevue, raised four children and have been active for over 50 years at Overlake Park Presbyterian Church. Since 2015, they have lived in Kirkland. Gordon is survived by his wife, Janet; sons Dale (Leisa), Dean (Cindy), daughters, Karen Wolf (Mark), Jill McKinley (Mike); and Trudi Murphy (Darrin). He had 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren plus nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Margaret.

A celebration of Gordon's life will be on 6/10/2017, at Noon at

Overlake Park

Presbyterian Church

1837 - 156th Avenue NE, Bellevue, WA 98007.

A reception will follow. He will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery with Military Honors.
