Greg Gibson Obituary

Greg "Gibby" Gibson

Born June 25, 1979 in Redmond, WA and died tragically January 8,

2016 in a house fire with his loyal dog "Nino" at his side in Shoreline, WA.

Survived by his parents, Gerry and Bonnie Gibson; sisters, Emily Bennett (Del) and Colleen Rowe; nieces and nephew, Fiona, Quentin, Angelica and Mikayla; loving partner, Ben Arao; and a large extended loving family.

Greg was the heart and soul of punk rock in the Seattle/Puget Sound area and beyond for nearly 20 years. He started as a drummer in his "Quicktips" band, and later "Can't Complain", then "Mind Candy" and other local bands. This all evolved into what became his life's passion, Local Chaos Productions.

Greg didn't care about getting rich. A fellow musician friend said what he cared about most were the people around him, his friends, family, relationships, and his music. He said, in that regard, Greg was the most wealthy man he knew.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, January 16

at 1:00 PM at the

Thomas Family Farm

9010 Marsh Road

Gibby, I've never met you. But your dad came today and installed four smoke alarms in my house in your honor. I'm on disability with a very limited income, and couldn't have afforded them otherwise. You don't know it, but you may have saved my life! I won't forget you, dear Gibby. Or the kind heart of your dad either. I only wish I could have met you in this life. My sincerest condolences to your family... my heart goes out to them...

Hey brother although it has, been over 15 years since I last laid eyes on you, the minute the news hit my ears I was devastated in tears. You hold a spot in my heart brother. Although the beat of the lions heart has stopped, his rhythm shall forever be heard! . Peace and Love brother, you can rest now.

Sadly I cannot make Greg's memorial on Jan 16th. I want to, but I have prior commitments. I will miss his vibrant support of so many styles and types of music here in Seattle. Greg was a rare bird. Someone who didn't have pretensions about what he liked. He was a supporter of those who tried and had Spirit (& gave their all!) to there passions. He booked shows that should have been great, but sometimes fell short of the mark and yet he ALWAYS took care of the performers (paid them, respected them, make them feel worthy). For this WE are grateful and will miss him dearly. I am still at a loss after hearing how he went. I am in shock and deeply saddened that I won't see him around the scene. I used to run into him in the oddest of places and he would always find the time to chat. Our world needs more folks like Greg. Folks that followed their dreams and included others in that pursuit. I am glad I got to tag along for a bit with him.

Dear Bonnie, Gerry, Colleen, Emily, Benjamin,

I've never been affected by the passing of a friend before. Greg was such a bright light in a sometimes dark world. He was the engine on the freight train that lead the way for musicians. He did so much for so many and never expected anything in return. I will miss his messages, his hugs, his smile, his music, his last minute can you help me get a band to play this gig, his light. I can't bring myself to stop crying when I think of him not being around anymore. I cannot even fathom how you are all feeling. The first thing I did after I heard of his passing is check all of our fire alarms in the house. I wish you all, and all of us (the friends and musicians that Greg's life touched...deeply) quick healing. I also wish that when we are low and do not know what to do that we can channel our inner Greg and rise to the occasion just like him. You will be forever remembered and forever missed. I love you Greg.

Greg encouraged multitudes of musicians, artists, poets, comics, & performers. Perhaps the best way to pay tribute to him is to keep the creativity flowing-- & share what we do.

For having nothing in common you knew what was good for me when I didn't want to see it. I'll always keep our time playing with Nino and talking before we headed to Mocha's burial close to my heart. You will forever be missed Greg, more than you may have ever realized.

Your dear Greg and I would converse about music at Gibson family gatherings. Even though not often, I looked forward to that when being with Greg. I will miss Greg tremendously. Jerry and Bonnie, and all of your family, my heart goes out to you. Love, Sandy Miller-Messner
