I believe that my uncle purchased this from Henry years ago. The date on it is 1983. Jerry loved this sculpture and now it´s a favorite of mine after I inherited it from Jerry. I was just wondering if anyone in Henry´s family remembered it?

Hi Henry, I sure do miss you. Hope you and Wayne are having fun up there. Remember when Wayne moved the post in the car port so the rain did not drip on Elaine? You didn't think it was possible, but the two you did it. and Elaine was so thrilled. Also, the two of you moved the fence in the front one day. Always thinking of things to do. We sure did have great times together. Thanks for the memories dear friend and all your love over the years. You and Elaine were a treasure. Joanie

On behalf of Renton High School, I extend our condolences to the family of Henry Maros. He holds a special place in the history of our school. In fact, his story and pictures are a part of the school archives.
As you know, Henry worked on building a Makah whaling Indian canoe carved from a cedar log. The canoe, known as the "Crow" was launched in October. 1987 at Coulon Park. with an Indian prayer ritual before launching. It took more than 900 hours to come up with the final product. Henry worked alongside RHS students, Sherwood Martin, a former Renton High teacher, and many others.
In 2016, the school librarian visited Henry and Elaine at their home and presented them with a book of articles and pictures of his work on the canoe - in appreciation for his contribution to our school and community, and in recognition of his magnificent artistry. Henry was a great host, and his home was a treasure of his many carvings of animals and Native jewelry.
Should you ever wish to see the book in the Renton High School Library archives, please let us know.
Rest assured his legacy lives on.
