As owner of husky deli I got the pleasure of feeding chatting and laughing with Jim daily Anyone who has worked at husky for the last 20 or so years has a big spot in their heart for Jim he was always cheerful and funny and its very hard to have him gone The park with his name on it is a great legacy to him Such a good friend, he will be missed by all of us

I work for Seattle Parks and had the pleasure of negotiating the City's purchase of his property for development of a public park. We first spoke in December 2001, the property acquisition was completed in September 2005, and the park opened in July 2008. His parents lived before the other houses were built in the neighborhood. He himself lived there for 70 years. During our negotiations, there was a story for every inch of the property! His seed of an idea was to provide a space for children to play. Seattle Parks and the community enthusiastically supported the dream and made it happen. He was tickled pink when the park was named after his parents! I remember seeing him walking by the park, his face absolutely beaming at seeing the kids enjoying themselves. Now, when I come by, I'll always expect to see him coming around the corner...

I knew Jim as a regular patron at the West Seattle Library, and we chatted many times about the neighborhood and what he'd seen change here during his life. I had the occasional pleasure of helping him find materials on the park he was developing, and he always said he wanted to create a place for the neighborhood children, and that there just weren't enough places to play. He was a genuinely kind man, and I will really miss him.

The name Ercolini will go on for many years because of the park in his name at SW Alaska and 48th Ave SW. While I only new him as someone I said hello to walking by before he moved, Ercolini Park is a daily destination with my little one and hundreds more.

After seeing a story on the morning news earlier this week about a 99 year old man decided to get married for the first time, I immediately thought of giving a Jim a call to him that I heard he got married. It would have been a good joke that would have no doubt made him laugh his famous laugh! Then this morning I found out that I would have been too late! But hey... I still have the many great memories of working with Jim when I supported him while he was a program manager at Boeing!!!
One of his better pranks/jokes was when he had asked someone if their suit was new, to then say how nice it look, to then ask if it came in their size? Oh there are others & no doubt many have many more to share too.
I pray that may the good Lord take good care of Jim & hopefully there will come a time when I get to see both of their smiling faces & hear Jim laugh again.
