Joan Roehl Obituary

Joan Louise Roehl

Joan Roehl, resident of Kenmore, passed away on January 24, 2015, from respiratory failure. All those who knew Joan will remember her energetic, thoughtful and caring devotion to friends and family.

The only child of Joseph and Ethel Barron, Joan was born and raised in Oakesdale, a small town in Washington State's Palouse region. Joan was proud of her heritage as a descendant of Washington State Pioneers as well as her family roots in the wheat growing and milling industries. She attended Washington State University where she was active in student life as the President of the Associated Women Students and a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She graduated with a BA in Interior Design in 1953. While at WSU, Joan fell in love with fellow student, Howard "Sam" Roehl, and during their 61-year marriage they lived in Virginia and California (United States Marine Corps), and raised a family (civilian life) in the San Francisco Bay and Seattle areas. Joan earned her Masters degree in Education from San Francisco State University. In her "retirement" years she worked as an independent interior designer.

Joan enjoyed adventure and travel, particularly when it allowed her to experience different cultures. She hosted many foreign exchange students in her home, and never turned down an opportunity to see the world. The pride and joy of her life, however, were her four daughters and ten grandchildren. In the last twenty years of her life she had a full schedule attending her grandchildren's many sporting and musical events.

Joan is survived by her husband Sam, daughters Lynn Clark (Herb), Lisa Pascualy (Ralph), Juli Lindquist (Tom), and grandchildren Lindsay Delp, Jillian, Spencer, and Stephanie Clark, Alex, Gabriel, and Julia Pascualy, and Sam, Jeff, and Sara Lindquist. Joan was pre-deceased by her daughter, Lori Roehl (Dave Delp).

A celebration of Joan's life will be held Sun, May 3rd at Inglewood Country Club in Kenmore WA.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages gifts to be made to the WSU Foundation, College of Nursing in memory of Joan Roehl, PO Box 641925, Pullman, Washington 99164.
