We just finished watching The Boys in the Boat. We immediately had to look up what happened later in life to the characters. Wow...What a man Joe was. We are so glad we got to learn more about him and Joyce's life together by finding a little more information online. Just imagine...they never knew how many people in the world would learn of their story, be looking at their old pictures online, and admire them years later. Sounds like they had a remarkable life together.

Bless you Joe for your hard work! They didn't give participation trophies in those days. I lived a make it or break it life. People succeed more often when failure is not an option! RIP

Hoy he visto una película... "Remando como un solo hombre" en español. Me ha gustado enormemente y, además, me hizo conocer a un gran deportista y a un gran hombre. No le conocía, ni siquiera su nombre, hasta ahora no sabía quién era.
Soy consciente de que hace tiempo que falleció... hoy lo que me alegra es su nacimiento.
Mis agradecimiento para él y mis condolencias para los familiares que hoy tuviera aún.
Descanse en paz.

After reading "The Boys In The Boat" I have so much regard for Joe. I was aggrieved at the conditions of his young life and the suffering he endured alone. What remarkable character and determination he was blessed with to rise above such an assault on his personhood. I felt real sadness for him. Meeting Joyce and developing a lifelong love must have assuaged his pain. Stories like Joe´s are the ones who ensure the rest of us express gratitude rather than resentment at what we have, that we set our sights high and ignore the challenges that are presented to us. Thank you to his daughter and Dan Brown for sharing his extraordinary life.

I attended the UW in the early 70's and remember the stories of the 1936 crew team, coach, shell house and Olympic Glory. I read the book " Boys in the Boat" earlier this year and saw the movie yesterday. I wish I could have met Joe Rantz before he passed away. Glad to see he married Joyce, had 5 kids and spent 35 successful years working for Boeing. Joe is a great example for all men, especially underdogs.

If I had to choose having dinner with one person it would be Joe Rantz. After reading "The Boys In The Boat" Joe embodies a person of integrity, courage, passion and acceptance. A true hero.

I remember my Uncle Joe as a kind and patient man. In the days of my youth children were not suppose to be seen or heard but Uncle Joe was alway willing to talk with us little people. I used to save up questions to ask him.I am proud of my Uncle Joe He was genuine, sincere and will be missed by his family and friends.

Here's to you Uncle Joe!

I am proud to say that I knew Joe Rantz and prouder still to be his niece. He was a kind and fun loving man, full of energy, wit, wisdom and song. He was a devoted family man and his life-long love affair with his wife Joyce was the stuff of which movies are made. As I grew up, I realized that he was indeed a remarkable man. Himself a child and product of hardship and adversity, he overcame them all to be a man of many talents and accomplishments, much admired and loved. There is an old saying, “To live on in the hearts we leave behind is not to die”. Joe Rantz will live on for as long as there is love and family and friends.
