Joseph Yumul Obituary

Joseph Benjamin Yumul

If the people we love

could live a million years,

we'd want a million more.

On September 20, 2015, our brother, uncle, father, Joseph Benjamin Yumul passed, literally leaving a hole in our hearts. "UJ," self-proclaimed renaissance rapscallion was born in Seattle, December 3 and from that day forward lived a full and robust life. His passions were rare Euro cars, crosswords, cooking; any and all sports for which he never missed a chance to place a bet. He was a master golfer and skier, a profuse reader of biographies, histories and art and loved anything Sinatra. Above all-he loved his FAMILY. He was a typical big brother-protective, bossy, benevolent and, at a young age, practiced the"art of negotiation" with each of his brothers and sisters, a skill employed during his long career in sales. He became an uncle in 1950, father in 1962, grand-uncle in 1984, and grand-grand uncle in 2008-a large extended brood of enamored followers with whom he shared his charm, know-how, debonair style, outrageous wit, humor and genuine zest for life. Missing him is hard, so for now, may we just tell his stories, crack his jokes; repeat his sage bits of advice, and live in his spirit, with the same gusto and e;lan.

Joe is survived by brother, Vincent; sisters, Bibiana and Phyllis; daughter, Lisa and 30 nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews.

WE LOVE YOU

We lost a good guy when Joe went to be with God on Sept. 15, 2015.
We did not see him as often as we would have liked but always enjoyed visiting with him during the holidays and special family birthdays. His zest for life was contagious. You could not help but feel joy when you were around Joe.

We send our love and deepest sympathy to all of Joe's family. Loosing Joe definitely leaves a hole in all of our hearts. Rest in Peace Joe. Until we meet again.

Just now learned of Joe's passing. I recall our phone conversations
which were always positive and with a robust zest for life. I thank
him for his accepting attitude and realize that he will be very much
missed by all those who knew him. I believe Joe was the kind of
person who 'had a following' that was a pleasure to be included in...

I came to know Joe, Phyllis and Vincent through my wife's mother. For many years I had the great pleasure of seeing them every year at a Christmas Party/Sing-a-Long around a piano. For hours Joe would position himself front and center and sing every song with a fun spirit and joy. His yearly solo for the group was "The Little Drummer Boy" - and it was a show stopper! I greatly admired the warmth, love and enjoyment that was evident when he was with Phyllis and Vincent. He was a true gentleman with a charm and a quick wit and was always interested in others.
My prayers are with Joe's family and friends. "May the Lord Bless and Keep You"

Through the optical industry for 40 years Joe and I made instant friends. Both being of Filipino decent we shared a kinship. Joe was the kind of friend that would do just about anything for you. He was so kind and happy always. He always brought a smile on my face even through tough times. I will surely miss our lunches at Bush Garden dear friend.

I was a childhood friend and neighbor of Joe "DoDo". We spent many hours assembling balsa wood airplanes from his kits. I have many happy memories of time spent with Joe and his family. I found out about his passing through the newspaper since we have been out of touch for many years. My condolences to Bibiana, Vincent, Phyllis and other family members. Sincerely, Kathleen "Dolly" Gochis Schultz from the old neighborhood 216 11th Ave.

I send my sympathy to Joe's family. Back in the 1960's, Joe Yumul sold me my first green Volvo car. My brother Joe Goudeau also bought his first car from Joe. I went to school with his sister Phyllis at Immaculate High in Seattle. My sympathy and prayers go to your whole family. Joe Yumul was special to me all these years.
Sincerely,
Gloria Goudeau Mercer

I first met Joe back in 1996 through the optical industry, he was always a pleasure to do business with. When I realized we were both "Car Guys" the friendship really bonded. We'd often swap stories of all the cars we had owned. When it came time to sell any of my cars, Joe was there to buy them. Another skill Joe possessed was that of a skilled carpenter. When I needed a deck built at my home, there was Joe, who built one the quality of which I have yet to see duplicated.
I will miss Joe. He was a good man.
