Kurt Graupe Obituary

Kurt Karl Graupe

1916 ~ 2012

Our dear father and grandfather, Kurt Graupe, age 95, died November 3, 2012, of causes incident to age.

Kurt was born Dec. 1, 1916, at home in Berlin, Germany, to Pauline Marie Luecke and Karl Hermann Graupe, and had a sister Ursula. In 1953 he graduated from the Technical University of Stuttgart with a Master of Physics degree.

He married Marianne Schaedle in 1949, and they had three children before immigrating to the U.S. where they had another child. In Houston Texas, Kurt worked as an aerospace engineer for a NASA contractor, and then relocated to Seattle, Washington to work for Boeing, from where he later retired.

Kurt loved the outdoors and insisted on taking the family out every weekend, rain or shine, to go hiking, camping, fishing, and boating on lakes and the ocean. We are all eternally grateful that he passed on his love for outdoor adventures to his family.

We'll miss him!

He is survived by his children Heinz (Julie), Werner, Betty (aka Bettina), Brigitte, and grandchildren Lucy and John Williams.

I remember uncle Kurt as a friendly man that I met for the first time in my twenties. He took me on a hike in the beautiful diverse landscapes of Washington State. I am sorry I lost contact with our family in the US. This is the reason I didn't know of his passing until so many years later. With love, Paul van Blom. The Netherlands.
