Lawrence Kaivo Obituary

Lawrence William KAIVO, Sr. April 2, 1913 - November 20, 2004 Lawrence William Kaivo, Sr., 91 of Shoreline, died November 20 at Northwest Hospital. He was born in Raymond, WA to Wilhelm and Alli (Norpakka) Kaivo and graduated from Raymond High School in 1931. As a youth he was an athlete, playing both football and basketball. As a senior in high school, he led tiny Raymond to the state basketball tournament only to lose to much larger Stadium High School of Tacoma in the championship game. He was named to the All State team for his efforts. He was an avid sportsman, loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. As a young man Mr. Kaivo worked as a carpenter and longshoreman. During World War II, he servd in the Navy as a quartermaster aboard the USS Mission Bay, an aircraft carrier spending most of the war in anti-submarine warfare. On June 1, 1946, Mr. Kaivo married Margo Anne Fulk in Vancouver, WA. He worked as a merchant seaman, commercial fisherman in Alaska and retired after 28 years as a building materials salesman. Mr. Kaivo is survived by his wife, Marguerite; son Lawrence Jr. and his wife Diann of Kingston, WA; his daughter Anne Wright and her husband Tim of Goleta, CA; and eight grandchildren: Trent, Morgan, Jay, Jesse, Dylan, Jason, Dustin and Alesha. He was preceded in death by his brother Jorma Kaivo. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Menlo Cemetery in Menlo, WA. Arrangements: Beck's Funeral Home, Edmonds, (425)771-1234.
