Lucy Ellen THIES Was born Aug. 2, 1925 to Roy and Grace McCurdy. A Seattle native, Lucy graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1943. She was a longtime member of the Nellie Wood Lane Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild and a charter member of the Lake Forest Park retired Mother's Club. She spent many Saturdays volunteering at the Orthopedic Thrift Shop in downtown Seattle. Lucy also enjoyed meeting dear friends and neighbors while working at local election polling places. She was the rare landlord who's loving personality shined through, and she counted many tenants and previous tenants as friends. Lucy is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Frederick. Lucy and Frederick were blessed with five children, daughters, Mary Ellen Senne (David), Melinda Johnson (Hayes) and Martha Vaughan (Brad); sons, Gregory (Carol) and Michael (Laurie); grandchildren, Bayley, Griffin, Shelby and Riley. Lucy is also survived by sisters, Virginia Crate (Leonard), Sarah Anne Todnem and brother, James McCurdy (Norma). Lucy's family wishes to give a special thanks to her niece, Leslee Anne Crate, and Swedish Hospice for their loving care during her illness. Mom spread sunshine into any life she had contact with. Always making sure your school lunch was packed and an extra Kleenex in your pockets. Mom, we loved you, and you will be missed. You were the best! Visitation will be held from 2 - 7 PM, Thursday at Butterworth-Arthur A. Wright Chapel, 520 W. Raye St., Seattle. A private family service to be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations in Lucy Thies' memory may be made to Union Gospel Mission, 3800 S. Othello, Seattle, WA 98118.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
