Lynn ALLEN Lynn Allen - Committed Teacher, Facilitator of Change A gifted teacher, political activist, and environmentalist, Lynn Allen, 62, died of ovarian cancer February 24th in the loving embrace of family and friends. She was the daughter of John Wesley Allen (deceased) and Georgia R. Slack Allen.She is survived by her mother, sisters Nancy Turnberg and Lisa Allen (Randy), beloved nieces Nadia Foster and Charity Hollingsworth (Josh), nephews Matt Turnberg (Connie), Paul Turnberg, and Tim Turnberg; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Mark Allen. Lynn earned a B.A. in history from the University of Washington after which she taught briefly at Seattle's Alternative School #1. She then worked for more than25 years for various consultancies and institutions, focusing on teaching effective teamwork.She also founded TAOS through which she helped managers of small progressive organizations develop leadership skills. Recently Lynn worked on the Gregoire campaign as a blogger; and blogged for Evergreen Politics and her consultancy Rebuilding Democracy. She joined the Institute for Washington's Future where she worked on sustainable agriculture and renewable energy projects and the development of a statewide rural economic development policy, focused on inclusion of Latinos and other underserved populations. She served on the Board of Directors of the Northwest Progressive Institute and was a founding board member of the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund. Throughout her life, Lynn taught what she believed - that each of us is integral to the bettering of the human condition. She is lovingly remembered as a visionary leader and compassionate and inspirational teacher. A celebration of Lynn's life will be held April 9th at the Community Center at Mercer View, 8235 SE 24th Street, Mercer Island, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
