Mary Virginia Worgan "Ginger" Murray

Mary Murray Obituary

"Ginger" Worgan MURRAY With "getting old is not for sissies" as a motto in her later life, Mary Virginia Worgan Murray took on the challenges of cardiac bypass surgery and a stroke and remained independent and engaged in life. She was born in Oakland, Maryland on November 10, 1920, and passed away at age 87 on January 23, 2007 in Seattle, Washington. She was given the nickname, "Ginger" by her brother and sister. Having grown up together in a funeral home, those three have remained very close. At the University of Maryland Ginger was chosen as a Preakness princess and earned a degree in Home Economics. She was an excellent cook and party planner. She taught school and worked as an administrative assistant in Baltimore during World War II. Ginger married Dr. David K. Worgan from Luke, Maryland in 1947. After his military service they moved to Seattle, where they raised two children, Nancy and David and where she resided for the last fifty three years of her life. As the wife of a doctor, Ginger entertained extensively, served on medical and church auxiliaries, supported a pony league baseball team and served on the board of a Seattle youth association. After her divorce from Dr. Worgan in 1970, she married Edward Duff Murray from Seattle. They were married for twenty nine years until his death in 1999. Ginger lived independently in her own home until her stroke in early November 2007. Ginger loved her children, grandchildren, sister and brother and their families. She supported them all with advice, kindness, humor and generosity. She also enjoyed discussing politics, choosing investments, gardening, decorating her home and voting. She was one of a kind. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Emroy and Mary Bolden, her daughter, Diane and by her husbands, David and Edward. She is survived by her children, David Worgan and his wife, Lori; Nancy Preg and her husband, Ted and her grandchildren, Sophia, Bolden, Madison, Jessica and Tim. Ginger’s funeral was held in Oakland, Maryland where she was buried.
