Michael Quam Obituary
Michael Quam died peacefully in December after a courageous 3-year battle with glioblastoma. He was 72. Mike graduated from Ingraham H.S. ('64) and UW ('68). After first practicing as a CPA, he worked for Boeing retiring from sales and marketing after 37 rewarding years.
Mike loved the outdoors: sailing in the San Juans, hiking, and skiing. He ran cross-country and track for Ingraham H.S. and for UW. Mike was also an avid cyclist. In Seattle's 1970 recession, he channeled his energy into bicycling and bike advocacy, founding the Cascade Bicycle Club with his younger brother Rick. He served as CBC president for 2 years and was instrumental in establishing the Burke-Gilman trail.
Mike was actively involved in his daughters' lives, coaching their soccer teams for many years. He became an enthusiastic triathlete in retirement, training and participating in events with his daughters.
Mike is dearly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathy; daughters Carolyn, Diana, and Kristin; two young granddaughters who delighted him until the end; and siblings Rick Quam and Rachel Garland.
A celebration of life will be held
at 11am on Saturday, February 23
at Eastshore Unitarian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, EvergreenHealth Hospice Care, or via the Head for the Cure 5K run/walk June 29 at Marymoor Park.

When trying out for track in our Junior year, Mike was assigned to mentor me because of his running expertise. I appreciate his generosity in going out of his way to assist and encourage me during this time. He was a good person and will be missed. You have my sympathy for your loss.
