Although I didn't get to know Dick as well as I would have liked, my young life was greatly impacted by his selfless contributions to the Hi-Liners program. As a young performer, I always was aware of Dick Dahlgard's support of the arts and his ever-present smile from behind his camera. Thank you, Dick, you will be well missed.

Nels - Although I only met Dick on a few occasions, his contributions to the community speak a great deal about his character. Losing a Father is difficult, but please accept my family's condolences during this time, and be sure to pass them to your sisters.

Dick and I went through high school together and became best friends.
He was my best man when I got married, the god-father to my two oldest boys. We hunted and fished together and had many happy times together. He will be greatly missed, my condolences to the family.

Dear Nels:

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father. I know what a great loss this is not only for you but for your entire family. The Obituary paid a great tribute to a man that did a lot in the short period of time he was with us. May his memory be everlasting - Mary Koumantaros (Petros and Yannis' mom)

"Uncle" Dick (as he was known to my brothers and I) and my father were best friends since high school, hence why we all called him Uncle. Uncle Dick was always around when I was growing up and there never seemed to be a Christmas Eve that he did not share with our family. I remember that he would bring us gift and they would always be wrapped in the Sunday comics. Uncle Dick was my first employer as I worked the photo finishing counter during my high school days. Always willing to work around my sports schedule it allowed me to play without worrying about my job. Sometimes I think that my lasing memory with him is the fact that I wore my b-ball cap backwards. He would always bring that up with a smile whenever I got the chance to see him. I will always thank him for my interest in photography. I knew that I had a good picture if Uncle Dick approved and that I had captured something special. He was my Uncle but also a good friend that I will miss sharing what I have captured with my camera.

My husband and I bid on and won a camera at the Highline High School baseball team auction the year the team went to New York. As soon as we won the bid, a man came over to our table and said; "if you have any questions about the camera, come in and see me. I will be happy to show you how to use it and all of its features." He left his card. It was from Dick's Camera. I asked someone who that was and they said; "Dick." I couldn't believe it. Not only did he donate one of his best cameras for the team, for their chance to go to New York and have one of the best times of their lives, he was there to offer assistance to the purchaser! I was so impressed with his kindness. I will never forget it and we still have the camera and will always cherish it.

When my son was little, we purchased a huge telescope. My son assembled the gigantic thing...almost. There was just something not quite right. I was a single mother working two jobs and did not have a clue how to get the telescope up and running. So, I called Dick's Camera and Dick told me to bring it over. Dick said to give him a couple of days. It was a minor thing- a part was installed backwards. Despite my efforts to pay him for his time, Dick refused my offer. I will never forget his kindness to us. Years later, I would enjoy our visits when I interviewed him for Robinson News. Dick's spirit will shine on in Burien and we are all better people for having known him.

The South Dakota cousins will certainly miss Dick. He was a connection to our 2 families. The 11th of October I had the pleasure of speaking with him after he called with condolences for the death of our Mother, Marie. We laughed and had a good talk about life in general.
Dick was always good about calling Aunt Marie and keeping up with all the news.
I was so glad he could spend time back in South Dakota hunting pheasants with my sons. We had talked about when he would return to South Dakota for another hunting trip. He will be dearly missed .

There has never been a more devoted Highline Pirate than Dick Dahlgard. He has been a fixture in our dugout for the past 12 years taking pictures of our players for our website and the year end banquets. We will miss his photos, humor and friendship.
