Robert Engstrom Obituary

Robert Elliott ENGSTROM Died unexpectedly August 28, 2009 at the age of 70. Bob was born in Seattle, Washington to Elton and Ragna Engstrom on July 19th, 1939. Bob grew up in Seattle, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1957. In July, 1960 Bob married JoAn, his wife of 49 years, a union that produced their three children, Robert (Carolyn), Christopher (Margaret) and Jennifer (Donald). At the age of 25 Bob earned his Stationery Engineer license and worked as the Chief Operating Engineer at Maryatt Industries and later as a maintenance engineer at the Westin Hotel in Seattle until his retirement in June, 2009. Bob was a member of Local 286 - Operating Engineers. A wonderful and devoted husband and father, Bob was a straight shooter with a keen sense of humor. He was a good friend to many. In addition to the his immediate family, Bob is survived by his brother, Dr. Donald Engstrom of Great Falls, MT, his three granddaughters, Anya, Marilyn and Melissa, several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church (16450 Juanita Drive N.E., Kenmore, WA 98028) on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00 p.m.

I was shocked to hear of Uncle Bob's passing. Words cannot express the sense of loss my family and I are currently experiencing and will forever. He was a person who really loved his family, all of his family! He always said I may not always like em but I love them! We were so fortunate to be guests at his dinner table where he would always sit at his spot and facilitate the family conversation. Our dinners could be really long, but we had so much fun that we didn't even notice at the time. Uncle Bob was extremely smart and had a wit about him that would make me laugh so hard I would be crying. Although,I was just his Brother's Daughter he made me feel like I was his Daughter. He treated all my children and my Husband the same way. I discovered something about him 3 years ago. This was when he sang at my Daughter's wedding. I was brought to tears by what a beautiful voice he had. I had known him all these years and never got to experience this. I will never forget that moment. Going to Auntie Jo and Uncle Bob's house has been a treat since I was a kid, and now at age 45 it still is. Bob and Joan are the most generous and loving people anyone could ever have the privelige of being around. Yes, the greatest compliment he could ever pay someone was that they were a straight shooter. He was the greatest one of them all. I will miss you and love you forever! "Litter Bug",
