Robert Ernst FENN Born May 3, 1920 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Ella (Madenwald) and Sizzo Fenn; died November 5, 2010 in Seattle, WA. An army veteran of World War II from 1942-1945, Robert served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as a cryptographer, receiving a bronze star for his part in the Philippine Liberation. August 3, 1948 he married Margaret Patricia Walsh in Ashland, WI and soon thereafter they moved to Seattle. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Seattle University, was employed with Boeing for 20 years as a parts buyer, and founded (with two partners) Air Spares, Inc., sellers of airplane parts. Upon retirement, Robert bought a fishing boat (El Tigre). In addition to globetrotting with Margaret and spending time with his children and grandchildren, Bob spent many happy summers charter fishing out of Westport, WA, where the only thing he enjoyed more than catching a big king salmon was teaching someone else how to land one. He was generous to a fault and will be remembered for his big heart and infectious laughter. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, with whom he shared 62 years of joy; sons, David (Ruth) and Mark (Ann); and grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Kyle and Liam. He leaves behind his beloved sisters, Edythe and Elinor, and many more relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his brother, Elbert Fenn. Bob's joys in life were his family, fishing, rockhounding, cooking, painting, and storytelling. He and Margaret loved to travel and made friends everywhere they went. We would like to extend special thanks to Bob's devoted in-home caregivers, and to the staff at Ballard Care and Rehabilitation Center, Polyclinic and Swedish Hospital. Private Family Services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Long Live the Kings (salmon conservation) www.lltk.org; or Ballard Food Bank, 5130 Leary Ave. N. W., Seattle, WA 98107. Please sign the online guest book at www.legacy.com. Hoffner Fisher & HarveyTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I remember back in high school, Mark needed a haircut fast or he was going to be in big trouble with Bob. Somehow, he commissioned me to do it. Poor Mark, it was so short he had to wear a baseball hat for weeks. However, Bob loved it so much he took us out to the Sorrento Hotel for a prime rib dinner as a thank you! What a great time that was..and all the times we spent with the Fenn's all those years ago. My prayers are with you all. Much love,

Bob, I know you are in a better place and are smiling from the above. I know because good things happen to good people; you are caring, loving, and welcoming person I ever met. I am one of the blessed people to know u. You taught me to smile and be happy regardless.
Last time I visited you at the rehab place, I couldn't stop crying, and now I know why, I was just saying Good bye.
I missed you

Dear Bob and Peg,
Twenty-seven years ago Bob wrote my husband 3 letters, sharing his insights on marriage. His advice: "The most important command to teach them is FETCH!" We all know it didn't work for Bob or Steve, but you did fetch your way into our hearts forever. And it was also you who brought us together. The first day I met Steve he said: "We have friends in common...the Fenns." And the rest is history. We love you both dearly. Thank you for so many years of fun, friendship and love.

To know Bob was to love Bob. Kind, funny, generous and full of stories. We will all miss him. I'll think of you Bob every time a big king doubles over that 10 footer you were so gracious to build for me. May you rest in peace.

Bob and Peggy were among our very first friends when we came to Seattle over 50 years ago. We enjoyed many great times--at Birch Bay, in Mexico, and New Zealand. Bob was always full of life and ready for adventure, particuly boating and fishing. Bob truly had a positive impact on all of us and made this world a much better place.

I feel honored to have spent many days fishing in Sitka, AK with Bob and his family. Truely a great man. I have many great memories of those trips that will live on forever. RIP Bob. I hope that you are now in a spot where the waters are always flat, and the King salmon are always on the bite! Sincerely, Captain Chuck McNamee (Sitka, Alaska)
