This incredible physician saved my son as a newborn in 1991. We were under his care for four years and he said the most important words to me that I have ever heard. My son was born with birth defects, and he looked directly at me and told me it was not my fault. I had never felt such relief! The gift he gave me with his words and with his expertise is truly beyond expression. My son is now a thriving vocal artist! He performed with Disney for many years and continues to enjoy his Music career! Deep gratitude to Dr. S for correcting my son`s birth defects and allowing him to have a remarkably normal life!!
I made so many phone calls in the middle of the night and he always took those calls with such patience and grace! May his family continue to take peace in the great work Dr. S gave to the world!

I know this is late, but just found out about the news of Dr. Schaller. He was my doctor while I was at Seattle Children's hospital in the late 70s and early 80s. He was passionate about his job as a Pediatric Surgeon and took time to listen to his patients. Rest in peace Dr. Schaller and thank you for everything you did for me while you were my doctor.

I know this is late in coming but I am saddened by the news of Dr. Schaller's passing. Back in 1979 he was the surgeon who saved my son Carl A. Mellberg III. I had brought him to Seattle Children's and he knew immediately that they couldn't wait another day to operate. My son passed away in 1980 and I left the Seattle area but have thought of Dr.Schaller often. I am sorry for his family and the world loss.

My son, Noah Jacobsen (now 18) asked me to look up Dr. S the other day in hopes of contacting him for a positive update and contact! Sadness overwhelmed me as I read the obituary. Dr. S saved my sons life. After a caustic lye ingestion and many countless procedures, Dr. S was the only one to give us any positive outlook for a normal future. Our intimate relationship made the journey tolerable and helped us take it one day at a time. Dr. S took an inovative approch and a risk to save my son! We are forever grateful and will always remember him as the man who dared to take risks and treat everyone with kindness and appreciate life. My deepest thoughts go out to the family. Dr. S had an amazing life and we loved his stories! Especially of climbing! I hope our statue of thanks went to the family. As an update, Noah is now a thriving 18yr old boy with genius qualities and thanks everyday for the chance he was given. We could not be more thankful to have had Dr. S in our life.

Dr. Schaller was a brilliant, compassionate man, and was the only surgeon to provide me with his home phone number when caring for my daughter as an infant. He repaired my daughter's feeding tube-induced intussusception on Thanksgiving eve, and he insisted that she return under his care a year lateras he was invested in her care. He was a physician who valued what the parents had to say. We were fortunate to have known him, and we will be forever grateful for his skill in repairing our daughter. Dr. Schaller was a truely gifted physician and a gracious man, and our sincere comdolances to his family and colleagues.

Rob would like 'AGC" at the end of each of his post -op notes. 'Another Great Case'. I am proud as a nurse to have worked with him and proud that he repaired my son's hernias. Matt King

I am so sorry to hear this. Rob was one of my heroes: such a dedicated surgery for many children with cancer. I will never forget him: his optomistic outlook for so many children with cancer, his incredible energy and dedication. He was the epitomy of a surgeon- physician. May he rest in peace, and never, never be forgotten. J Feusner, Peds oncology .

As a general surgery resident at COHMC in 1986, and in countless referrals and consultations with Dr. Schaller afterwards, I can only say this is a huge loss to all his patients and colleagues. The model has been discontinued and you can't get parts.

I worked with Rob as his office manager for 14 years in late 80's and 90's in his private practive. I learned so much from him and loved his easy style with families and his positive outlook . I will miss him but remember him for the rest of my life.

I worked as an OR Coordinator at Children's in the late 80's and early 90's. Dr. Schaller was one of the few surgeons who consistently treated the front line staff with kindness, courtesy and respect. I will remember him always. May Rob Schaller rest in perfect peace.
