Stanford Hanson Obituary

Stanford William Hanson

Stanford "Stan" William Hanson, 47, passed away on October 8, 2014 at home surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle against stomach cancer. Stan was born in Tacoma, WA on July 14, 1967 to Stuart and Phyllis Hanson. He grew up in Gig Harbor and graduated from Gig Harbor High School. At the University of Washington, Stan received a B.S. in Building Construction, and both a B.A. and M.A. in Architecture. While at his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, he met his wife, Sandra, a Pi Beta Phi, on a blind date. They recently celebrated 22 years together. Stan was a loving husband and extremely devoted father to two wonderful boys, Balin (13) and Harrison (9). He was active in the community, volunteered at his kids' school and coached Little League. Stan loved to ski, golf, work on cars and play on the water, but his favorite activity was hot-tubbing with his sons under the stars. As a partner at Stillwell Hanson Architects, he thoroughly enjoyed his career as an architect; however, his ability to smooth out bumps in the road for his clients during the building process was one of his most admired talents. Stan's laid back demeanor, infectious laugh and enormous smile came with a huge heart for his family and those in need, which he always took time to help. Stan will be forever missed.

Stan is survived by his parents Stuart & Phyllis, wife Sandra, two sons, and siblings Stuart (Barbara), Steve (Corey), Stephanie (Kevin) Steele, and Scott (Deshea), as well as many nieces, nephews & extended family.

A celebration of Stan's life will be held on Friday, October 24 at 3:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood, WA 98036. Memorial service will be followed by a reception.

Dear Sandra, Balin and Harrison,
We are your neighbors around the curve on 51st and have just heard the very
sad news of the passing of your loving husband and dad. Unfortunately, busy lives have kept us from knowing each other but we have enjoyed watching and hearing the happy sounds of children playing as we'd drive by your house and the past few years have given us a special treat at Christmas time with the beautiful lighting display on shrubs and tree. clearly you were blessed by such a wonderful husband and father. Please know you'll be in our prayers and we're here for help should you need it.
With deepest sympathy,
The Mays
