Steve was a giant in my life going back 50 years: a combination of a big brother, a political leader, a law professsor, a extraordinary raconteur, and a wonderful friend. What a great person. I am so sorry for all of our loss, but so greatful for his presence in my life.

So sorry for your loss. May you receive strength and comfort from God. "He will make you firm. He will make you strong. He will firmly ground you". 1Peter 5:10

I last interacted with Steve more than a decade ago, when he moved out of the Sacramento area. We had worked together as lawyers and became friends, though I was clearly the junior partner. He was a very fine fellow. What I most remember about him, though, was his incredible mind. He had an amazing command of world literature, history, philosophy, and politics. I think he must have had a photographic memory. To say that he was extremely learned would be an understatement. He also had a very good heart. Though he worked for land developers back in those days, he was as committed a political progressive as one will find.
