Ted Imanishi Obituary

Ted T. IMANISHI Age 79, passed away on August 9, 2003. Ted (Takeo) was born in Seattle, WA, November 20, 1923 to Umajiro and Shigeko Imanishi. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Toshiko; by his children Arleen (Steve) Smith, Kathleen (Robert Smulling), Teresa (Dick Anderson), Doug (Chika) and Daryl (Rica) Imanishi; his sister Hatsuye Hats (Nob) Kawada; his sister-in-law Edith Imanishi; and his aunt Haru Okamoto and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Yosh on June 28, 1998, and his brother Roy. Ted grew up in Seattle and together with his brother helped his father with his moving business. He graduated from Broadway High School in 1942. Ted was an accomplished builder, cabinetmaker, carpenter and contractor for 37 years, having built and remodeled many homes and buildings in the Greater Seattle area. He had great appreciation for his customers and took pride in his work. Ted was interned in Minidoka, Idaho before serving in W.W. II with the 442nd Regiment. He was an active volunteer with the Seattle Buddhist Church, Boy Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. He was a member of Nisei Vets. He enjoyed kendo, fishing, skiing, skating, bicycling, baseball, making things out of wood and with found objects, and spending time with his grandkids. Ted will be dearly missed by his family and friends. At his request, private Memorial Services were held at the Seattle Betsuin. Memorial donations may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or a charity of your choice.
