Teresa Healy Obituary

Teresa HEALY Terry Healy died quietly at home on March 17, 2012. She was born July 9, 1946, in San Diego, California, to Madeleine (Doolie) and Daniel Healy. She attended elementary school in San Marino, California, and graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena in 1964 as a National Merit Scholar. After graduation from Swarthmore College in 1968 with majors in English Literature and Philosophy, Terry, in her words, "stopped by Seattle, en route from college to Canada, and somehow never got any further." In 1985she earned her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington. She was the widow of Harry McAndrew, who died in March 2011. Terry's was a life of great creativity, variety and generosity. She was an artist with words and ideas, as well as with paint and clay. Her careers blended local politics and the arts. She served in the administration of Mayor Royer on his wordsmith team. In the Bathhouse Theatre's heyday, she worked behind the scenes and wrote its publicity. Recently Terry focused on non-profit arts organizations as grant writer for Kirkland Performing Arts Center, publicity manager for The Empty Space Theatre, and grant writer for the Ethnic Heritage Council of the Pacific Northwest. For several years, she owned and operated the Green Room Café. She worked at Open Studio Painters and showed her paintings in local galleries. Terry faithfully supported such civic institutions as the Woodland Park Zoo, Pike Place Market, Seattle Public Library and the SMP. She also developed crossword puzzles, played Scrabble with inspiration, enjoyed water aerobics and valued her membership in Crones. In July 2011, Terry orchestrateda gala "Senior Prom" to which she invited scores of friends and relatives to help celebrate her 65th birthday. Her brilliance and kindness will be greatly missed by her two sisters, three nephews, two nieces, their families, and many friends.

I will miss the Terry who taught me to cook the perfect lamb chop on a hibachi. She who could and would argue politics with such sharpness and humor. The Terry who incorporated beauty into the ordinary and made it special. A part of my youth goes with her and I will miss her.

Terry Healy was such a kind and generous woman. Terry was the Public Relations manager at The Empty Space Theater when I started there as the box office manager. Terry took me under her wing and encouraged me to work outside of my job classification.

When Terry moved on from her duties at The Empty Space, she championed my move from the box office to her position in Public Relations. Terry was my mentor, and I still use her press release template to this day.

When I was laid off from The Empty Space, Terry did her best to hook me up with job and gig opportunities. In the last few years, Terry was a faithful supporter of my video work. She attended screenings and was a very generous donor to our latest Kickstarter campaign.

Terry was a hoot, with a sly, highly intelligent wit. She was a smoker and a drinker and could cut down fools with a dismissive toss of her head. But she never dismissed me, for some reason.

I will sorely miss Terry, but I am very grateful for having known her, and having been the recipient of her knowledge, talent and support. Godspeed, Terry. I will most certainly have a double in your honor.

I will miss:

Wickedly witty
Overalls Terry
Bent over easel
Capturing everyday beauty
With liquid color
Making smiles big
In my heart to hers.

Painting will always be
More lovely fun
With Terry
Than without.

Terry was a longtime friend of my family. In the last few years, she spent time with us during Christmas celebrations and my retirement. She created a painting for my retirement which is hanging on my wall and that I will cherish always. Rest in Peace, Terry.

The world has lost an art-filled, thought-filled soul, who gave us all some important whimsy as well.

Saddened to learn of Terry leaving. She brightened up water aerobics and is missed. Nice to read about her life as I never talked a lot, only listened! Indeed, she was quick with words! Wishing her much happiness in this next phase, whatever it is! Bonnie from Green Lake Pool

A wonderful lady. After we both left the Empty Space, we remained friends, and she came up with ideas for projects she thought I should be involved in, even after I moved to Atlanta. I will miss her.
