I played in the Garfield Orchestra which was only a String Quartet. We had 3 violins and 1 cello. We needed a viola, so I volunteered. Mr. King suggested that we enter a city wide quartet contest. We won and received a gift certificate for the Music Department. This was in 1962. Mr. King made us realize we were really good.
His Jazz Band was always a hit for the Funfest Performances. Top Notch!
Thanks Mr. King for the fond memories.

Dr. Waldo King inspired us to work hard and love jazz. He taught us how to work together and care for each other, just like he cared for us. He was a great inspirational leader, a kind heart, and will be missed forever. RIP and thank you, Dr. King.

I was at Roosevelt '71 - '74, Waldo was one of though teachers who instilled his love of music in us. His ability to make us want to be our best in stage or marching band and swing choir is reflected in the awards and the students who went on to do greater things in music and life. RIP Waldo, keep a thermos ready for us who follow.
