William OHLSTROM Obituary

William R. OHLSTROM, CPCU Bill passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, after a short bout of cancer. He was born in Seattle on August 15, 1919, the second son of Oscar and Lillie Ohlstrom. He was raised in the Phinney Ridge area of Seattle, attended Ballard High School and the University of Washingtonuntil he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served in the Philippines and upon his return to Seattle worked for Boeing for a shorttime. He then pursued a career inthe insurance industry and becamea well-respected casualty and commercial property underwriter wherein he acquired his CPCU designation. He worked for several companies and retired from Safeco Insurance Company in April 1985. However, this retirement wasshort as he was soon asked by associates to work as a consultant intheir respective agencies. His final retirement was in December of 2001. While working at the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company Bill met his future wife, Mitzi. They were married in Seattle on June 30, 1951. Together they raised three children: Jeff, Mark and Carla. Bill actively supported his children's schooling and various activities. While his two sons were in Boy Scouts, he was treasurer for Scout Troop 171 for several years, ordering and selling Christmas trees for their fund-raising goals. While his daughter was in high school, Bill was president of the Holy Names Academy Parents Club for one year. Bill took a great interest in most sporting activities; however, his passion was with the U.W. Husky football program, being a season ticket holder for more than sixty years. Bill and Mitzi enjoyed taking cruises to the South Pacific, Alaska, throughout the Caribbean and two different cross-Atlantic cruises from Florida into the Mediterranean. They also enjoyed extended tours of Spain, Portugal, Greece and the former Yugoslavian country. In the wintertime they enjoyed vacationing in Palm Springs and Maui. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. He is survived by Mitzi, his wife of 58 years; his sons, Jeff (Val) Ohlstrom, Redmond; by Mark (Cathy) Ohlstrom, Tukwila; his daughter, Carla (Ron) Duncan, Bothell; and by eleven terrific grandchildren, Matt, Rob. D.J., Michaela, Andrew, Marissa, Nathan, Hannah, Brian (Claire), Diana (Tristan), Caitlin (Dan); and one great-granddaughter, Lavinia. Also surviving are former son-in-law, Larry Kucera, Bill's in-laws, Al and Katherine Krininger, and Mary Krininger, Seattle, and by Dolores and John Acurio, Port Orchard. Several cousins and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the states also survive. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 5th, at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 6201 33rd Ave. N. E., Seattle, officiatedby Rev. Hu Mitzi, So sorry to hear of Bills passing, but he is not suffering any more. We know you gave him the best of care during his last years. His good friend Don Brown was a boy friend of my best friend Evie. Remember Mass. Bonding and Insurrance Co where we first met.

May the many cherished memories of Bill provide a source of strength and comfort for the family. We will miss him - especially discussions of Husky Football, trips to Long Beach, and just plain chatting. Then there are all of the family gatherings, each one so meaninful to Bill and to all of us. We share the heartfelt sorrow for the loss and rest in knowing that his difficulty over the past few weeks has ended peacefully.
