William Quillinan Obituary

William E. (Bill) QUILLINAN Born Dec. 11, 1933 to Alice and Glen Quillinan in Ogden, Utah. Passed away Feb. 5, 2009 at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA. Bill attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Ogden, and was a graduate of Ogden High School. Bill was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity while in college. He was a recipient of an NROTC college scholarship and upon graduating from the University of Utah was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy as well as earning his BSME degree. He served three years aboard the destroyer, the USS Rupertus, in the Pacific. His last tour of duty was at the U.S. Naval Academy where he was an instructor in the engineering department. While at the University of Utah he met his loving wife of fifty-two years, the former Kay Silvagni of Price, Utah. Bill's area of expertise was in Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning. He worked in this capacity as a design and sales engineer for the Trane Company in Spokane, WA as well as Johnson Controls, retiring from the Seattle office in 1991. After enjoying six months of retirement, he returned to teaching full time at North Seattle Community College in the HVAC department, a program he helped establish in the 1970's. He retired with tenure in 2005. His students success was his greatest reward. Bill was a fantastic baker and there are many who are going to miss his homemade bread, scones and cookies which never burned or were misshapened unlike his wife's! Bill is survived by his wife, Kay, as well as his five children, Eric (Gigi), Stephanie (Philip) Thornley, Paula (Rich) Helinski, Bethany (Brian) Prusynski, Audrey (Peter) Holocher and seven grandchildren, Jordan and Daniel Thornley, Allison and Roslyn Gober, Olivia and Amber Helinski and Esther Prusynski. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Feb. 27 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 10100 NE 192nd St, Bothell, WA. Memorials in Bill's name may be made to Evergreen Hospice, 12040 NE 128th St., MS5, Kirkland, WA 98034.
